The 48th Australian Kendo Championships campaign has now concluded. We would like to thank the Coaching team for their commitment and support and all the QLD team members for their dedication and involvement. For those that did not compete but assisted in the squad trainings, thank you.
We had 21 QLD competitors represent Qld, and we were able to field a team for each of the 5 team event categories.
Results for QLD include:
- 2nd Place for Women’s Veterans Individuals – Kaori Langley.
- Equal 3rd Place for Women’s Veterans Individuals – Tomo Kawami
- Equal 3rd place for Men’s Kyu Teams
- Equal 3rd place for Women’s Kyu Teams
- Equal 3rd Place for Men’s Dan Teams
- Equal 3rd place for Kata Teams
- Fighting Spirit Award – Kyu Men: Adam Huang (QLD)
- Fighting Spirit Award – Kyu Women: Hana Langley (QLD)

As we look forward to the 49th AKC in 2027, we would like to review the 48th AKC Campaign and seek feedback from both competitors and those that did not attend or compete. We will be using this with the aim of improving the 49th AKC campaign.

48th AKC – Hosted by Queensland
The 48th AKC was hosted by the QKR on the Gold Coast – planned and delivered by the AKC Organising Committee with the support of around 40 QKR volunteers. It was a massive effort including hosting 2 AJKF high-ranking delegates Koyama Sensei and Iwasa Sensei over 6.5 days, 1 day of set up, meetings and shinpan seminar, 2 days of competition, Championships Dinner, 1 day of Seminar, and half a day of grading examinations. It was a very successful event with excellent feedback from attendees. The Kendo Board commented “one of the best AKCs, Seminar, grading we have ever had”. We had 134 competitors, 37 shinpan, 42 Volunteers, 92 seminar participants, 96 guests at the Chamionships Dinner and 29 Dan grading candidates! and an expense budget of over $83K. It is amazing what can be acheived when members come together and work effectively as a team. Special ackgnowledgement to Eric Jeffrey (Competition Manager), Kaori Langley (Assistant CM and Volunteer Coordinator), Hirko Tskadaira Sensei (Sensei Care lead), Tomo Kawami (Grading Manager).
