Queensland Kendo Renmei Winter Seminar 11 & 12 July 2026

Queensland Kendo Renmei invites you to the Queensland Kendo Winter Seminar. All current AKR members (and FIK affiliate members) are welcome!

Date: Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th July 2026 – Saturday 8:30am-5:00pm (Kendo), 9:00am – 4:00pm (Iaido), Sunday 9:00am – 2:00pm.

Location: South Pine Sports Complex, 620 South Pine Road, Brendale, QLD, 4500.

Schedule:

Saturday

• 8:30am – venue opens
• 9:00am – opening Ceremony
• 9:30am – seminar session 1
• 12:00 -12:30pm – Lunch
• 12:30pm –  QKR AGM
• 1:30pm – seminar session 2
• 4:30/5:00pm – end day 1

Sunday

• 9:00am – venue opens and grading registration
• 9:30am – panel aand candidate briefings
• 10:00am – Jodo, Iaido & Kendo Grading Examination
• 1:00pm – Goodwill Keiko (Kendo), free practice (Iaido)
• 2:00pm – venue closes

Kendo Schedule:

8:30am – Venue opens
9:00am – Opening Ceremony
9:30am – Seminar Session 1 – Stretching, Warm-up, Suburi (20 mins), White Board and Kendo Basics Presentation
10:30am – (Drinks Break), Methodology and application of the essential basics: Sen (Pressuring the opponent to create attacking opportunity)
12:00 -12:30pm – Lunch
12:30pm – QKR AGM
1:30pm – Seminar Session 2 – Practical Application of Session 1 Theory, Jigeiko to test the new skills of the seminar participants.
4:30/5:00pm – End Day 1

Iaido-Jodo Schedule – TBC

Seminar planning is under way with the relevant appointed instructors, and it is hoped that we can issue a schedule with a few weeks.

IMPORTANT! You must be a paid 2026-2027 member* of the Queensland Kendo Renmei (or AKR Affiliate) to participate in this event. 

* 2026-27 Membership registration will be open early June.

Grading Examination

A grading examination will also be held on Sunday moring July 12. This is open to current financial members of the AKR.

To be eligible you must meet the time-in-grade and minimum qualifications for the grade you are attempting.

We are planning to hold grading examination as per the below:

• Kendo 3 Kyu to Sandan (3 dan) – To Be Confirmed – based on grading panel availability.
• Iaido 3 Kyu to Nidan (2 dan) – To Be Confirmed – based on grading panel availability.
• Jodo 3 Kyu to Shodan – To Be Confirmed – based on grading panel availability.

Dan examination questions will be posted here (on the QKR Website) shortly after the closing of the grading registrations.

Closing date for receiving grading applications is the 27 June 2026.

To apply for grading examination follow these 2 steps:

1.  Submit your signed Grading Application Form (found here: akr_grading_applcation_form) to Grading@qkr.asn.au by 5pm 27 June 2026 to be eligible to be examined. No late submissions will be accepted.

2. Pay your grading fees via https://events.humanitix.com/2026-queensland-kendo-winter-grading-examination-registration-and-payment by 5pm 27 June 2026.
