7th Oceania Women’s Kendo Seminar and Taikai, Gold Coast 2025
7th Oceania Women’s Kendo Seminar and Taikai, 14-15 June 2025, Gold Coast.
The Australian Kendo Renmei Kendo Board and the Queensland Kendo Renmei are excited to bring you the 7th Oceania Women’s Kendo Seminar and Taikai !!!
This is the first Oceania Women’s Kendo Seminar and Taikai since the 6th event was held in Melboune in 2019.
It will be a very cost-effective event as the bulk of the event running costs will be funded through a QLD Govt. Women & Girls grant.
Our motto for this Seminar and Taikai is “Oceania Women – Support, Inspire, Together We Grow”. We hope this Seminar and Taikai will be a great opportunity and a safe and supportive environment for the Oceania Women Kenshi to:
- learn and train together with our peers,
- share with each other your questions and answers to Kendo issues (including those specific to Women Kenshi) as well as your Kendo ups and downs, and
- build a bigger network of Women Kenshi by crossing swords with new and old friends.

Instructors: The seminar will be led by a number of AKR and NZKF’s inspiring senior sensei who have extensive experience in instruction and competition!

- Session 1 – Bokutou Ni Yoru Kendo Kihon Keiko Ho
- Session 2 – Application of Kihon Keiko

- Session 3 – Reevaluating Kamae and its benefits
- Session 4 – Discovering the concept of defence and its benefits

Sunday 15 June 2025
- Asageiko/ Morning Keiko: 6:00am -7:00am (all participants and volunteers are welcome)
- Morning session: instructed by Noriko Matsumoto Sensei
- Shinpan practice
- Shiai practice
- Afternoon: Taikai/ Competition
- Participants will be allocated into 3-person teams
- Opportunities for Shinpan and Kakari-in involvement·
We would like to ask all participants to bring your own bokutou (wooden sword). If you are unable to bring one, please let us know by emailing QKR Secretary (secretary@qkr.asn.au), and we will be happy to arrange one for you.
Taikai (Competition):
- 3-person team events.
- Shinpan and kakari-in involvement
Accommodation:
- Onsite accommodation with catering (Fri – Sun) available. These are 6-person cabins with bunk beds, bathroom, toilet (linen/towels included).
- Arrange your own accommodation. Suggetions:
- Tallebudgera Creek Tourist Park – 50m from venue
- Sea Mist Palms – 300m from venue
- Regancy on the Beach – 350m from venue
Cost:
- Accommodation-meal package – $150 (includes event registration, onsite accommodation and meals package). $100 for NZKF travelling from NZ.
- Registration only – $50 event registration only (arrange your own accommodation and lunch).

Eligibility:
AKR or FIK affiliate members (must be current). Seminar and Competition is open for ALL Women including cis and trans women and is non-binary friendly.
