Queensland Kendo Renmei Inter-Club Kendo Training 2026 (July)

Following the success of the Inter-club kendo training in 2024, the QKR will be hosting on-going monthly ‘Inter-club QKR Kendo Training’ open for all members. It is a 1-hour mawarigeiko practice.

Location: Somerville House Aquatic Centre, 4 Stephens Rd South Brisbane. (1 min walk from Southbank Train Station). Parking available under centre.

Time: 3:45-4:45pm (this follows on from the QLD Kendo Squad Training which runs from 1pm Oct-March)

Cost: Fee covers 6 sessions (Jan-June and July-Dec) – Adult $50, Junior $35.

Requirements: You must be a QKR financial member (non-member guests will need prior approval from the QKR management Committee), and you must agree to the rules below.

Rules:

  1. Everyone is equal at this training (no sensei), and must treat each other with respect, care, kindness and politeness. Unnecessary aggression will not be tolerated.
  2. Everyone’s safety is of upmost importance – both psychological safety and wellbeing, and physical safety – please look after everyone’s safety at all times, and also manage your own safety – including any physical limitations, psychosocial needs, and any medical conditions you may have.
  3. No instruction (except for individual advice if necessary for safety – but avoid stopping keiko to give advice).
  4. Call out and report any behaviours (to the QKR) that are not in line with the AKR Policies: Code of Conduct; Member Protection; Child safety; Improper use of drugs and medicine.
  5. Step out to rest at any time – manage your own fatigue and welleing. Respectfully communicate any issues or needs with opponents.
  6. Check your equipment before keiko starts and during the session.
  7. Everyone is welcome regardless of age and grading, but you must be in bogu. If you are a beginner announce this at bow-in time.
  8. Respect everyone’s style of kendo. This training can follow immediately after QLD Squad Training, so some members will be in shiai-kendo mode – please respect this.
  9. This is a friendly keiko – please retain the friendly atmosphere during the keiko.
  10. Everyone must have paid their fees – this will be checked.
  11. We will usually go for a bite to eat and drinks afterwards at a nearby venue. Everyone is welcome!
